Nootropics
Nootropics (from noos mind and tropos to bend) are mind-altering drugs and medications; specifically the term refers to a view that echoes the advertising campaign "better living through chemistry." Nootropics are advocated within transhumanism as a general way to improve living conditions, or for specific goals, such as increasing motivation.
Stimulants / Mind enhancing drugs:
The Racetam compounds share similar chemical structures as well as cognitive effects. Piracetam, one of the first smart-drugs to be discovered, was the first to be labeled a nootropic. The mode of action of the racetams is not yet clearly understood. The racetams do not bind to any known receptor in the brain. Piracetam is considered to be a very safe, very nontoxic drug.
