Initiation

Usually the secret name is not given to the neophyte directly, but only after the completion of some sort of initiation.

The connection between the initiation and the application of a secret name seems to be considered very deep by most esoteric orders, and probably represents the mystery of rebirth (or birth - death - rebirth).

Famous secret names

Christian Rosenkreuz

Christian Rosenkreuz is believed by many to be the secret name of Francis Bacon. This is also the position of Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis.
