Adaptations

Some of these stories were later adapted into full novels. Jerusalem's Lot became the basis for the novel
'Salem's Lot. Night Surf became the basis for the novel The Stand.

Movies have also been made based on some of these stories. Graveyard Shift, The Mangler, Night Surf, and The Last Rung on the Ladder have each been adapted for film once. Trucks has been adapted into both a film of the same name and the movie Maximum Overdrive. Sometimes They Come Back and Children of the Corn have been adapted into films based on the original stories as well as sequels that are loosely based on them. The Ledge and Quitters, Inc. were both adapted into segments of the film Cat's Eye. The Woman in the Room and The Boogeyman were both adapted into segments of the film "Stephen King's Nightshift Collection". Two films were made loosely based on The Lawnmower Man.
