New Universities
In the United Kingdom, the term New University has two meanings.It may refer to one of the seven universities founded in the 1960s following the Robbins Report on higher education. These universities are
- Lancaster University
- University of East Anglia
- University of Essex
- University of Kent
- University of Sussex
- University of Warwick
- University of York
New University has more recently been used to describe any of the former polytechnics that were given the status of universities by John Major's government in the early 1990s. These include the universities of Greenwich and Kingston.
