Never Mind The Buzzcocks
Never Mind The Buzzcocks is a surreal comedy panel game show with a pop and rock music theme produced for the BBC, and usually aired on BBC TWO. The title is a play on the title of the Sex Pistols Never Mind The Bollocks album and the band The Buzzcocks. In the show celebrities, usually comedians and musicians, are given tasks such as guessing what song their team mates are attempting to recreate (with no instruments or props) and guessing which of three implausible stories about a popular musician are true. The show has been running since 1996, presented by Mark Lamarr and featuring regular team captains Phill Jupitus, Sean Hughes (1996-2002) and Bill Bailey (2002-).The first round of the show has varied over the series. The following are some of the rounds featured:
- Connections, where each team has to work out the unlikely connection between two musical performers.
- Sorry no refund, where they have to guess the real reason, out of three given, why a band cancelled a gig
- Indeciferable lyrics, where each team have to work out the real lyrics to a song.
- A round where the teams are asked what the origin is of the name of a band.
The third round is the Identity parade round, where they are given the name of a musician, and have to spot him, or her in a line-up of (usually) 5 individuals. Most of the time the individuals could plausibly be the musician named, but there have been some notable exceptions. A semi-regular member of the line-up is a black man, who seems never to blink. He is present regardless of the appearance of the hidden musician.
The final round is next lines, and here each team has a time limit. Mark gives the teams a series of lines of songs, and the teams have to say the next line. A regular feature of this round is musical guest not getting their own lyrics, although some do.
