National Post

The National Post is a large Canadian English language national newspaper based in Toronto.

The Post was founded in 1998 by Conrad Black to combat what he saw as an over-liberalizing of editorial policy in Canadian newspapers.

From the beginning the Post has been staunchly conservative, and has an editorial page featuring the writings many prominent neo-conservatives from the US and Canada. The paper has been a moderate success, but has been losing the circulation and profit battle to the Globe and Mail.

In 2001 the paper was sold to the Canwest Global Communications and run by Israel Asper until his death in 2003. It is now owned and operated by Asper's sons.
