The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) was founded in 1946, and has been at the forefront of research and development in education since that date. NFER's head office in loacted in The Mere in Slough, Berkshire, England. The foundation also has offices in Swansea and York.

The foundation's work includes numerous research projects, the evaluation of the impact of various education and training programmes, the development of assessments for all age ranges and specialist information services.

The NFER founded nferNelson, which they sold to the Granada Learning Group in 2000.
