Mrs. Brown

For thoughtful child sponsors
Mrs. Brown (also released as Her Majesty, Mrs. Brown, presumably for the benefit of people who might not understand the original title) is a 1997 movie starring Dame Judi Dench and Billy Connolly. The movie was an unexpected success in the cinema, where it was intended for a very small limited release. It was a co-production of Miramax, the BBC and WGBH's Masterpiece Theatre.

The film tells the story of Queen Victoria and her relationship with her servant, John Brown, and the scandal it produced (the nickname "Mrs Brown" clearly implying an improper sexual relationship between the two). It was written by Jeremy Brock and directed by John Madden.

The movie was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Judi Dench) and Best Makeup.
