The Moldavian SSR (Moldovan Cyrillic: Република Советикэ Сочиалистэ Молдовеняскэ, Russian: Молда́вская Сове́тская Социалисти́ческая Респу́блика) was a constituent republic of the Soviet Union from 1940 to 1990. It comprised the area of Transnistria, which had previously been an autonomous region of the Ukrainian SSR and parts of Romania that had been allocated to the Soviet Union by the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

The state's name was changed to the Republic of Moldova in 1991, and it declared independence after the attempted coup in the Soviet Union.
