Metamorphoses

Two classical texts are known by the title Metamorphoses. The text better known by this title is by Ovid and describes the creation and history of the world in terms of Greek mythology. The other, by Lucius Apuleius, is more commonly known in translation as The Golden Ass and includes most notably the story of Cupid and Psyche. The Arthur Golding Translation of 1567 influenced Shakespheare and was characterized as "The most beautiful book in the language" by the poet Ezra Pound.
