Mercury Cougar
The Cougar has often been the name of a car from the Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford Motor Company. The name was first used in 1967, with the introduction of a variant of the Ford Mustang.
It is common for several divisions of the same automaker (particularly those of Ford and GM), to sell basically the same car, but with differences in the trim, under different names. Sometimes the standard features included in the base model are also different.
The Cougar is a bit unique in this area, because it was introduced as a variation of the Ford Mustang, but in some years it was a variation of the Ford Thunderbird.
