Meldrick Taylor,won an Olympic boxing gold medal, at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympiad. The 1984 USA Boxing Team included: Pernell Whitaker, Trevor Berbick, Virgil Hill, and Evander Holyfield. Taylor is a former two-time world champion. Taylor won the IBF junior welterweight championship by defeating James "Buddy" McGirt. Taylor lost his champioship in a memorable fight against, arguably the best fighter pound-for-pound, Julio Cesar Chavez. A year later, Taylor won the WBA welterweight champioship. Taylor lost this champioship to "Terrible" Terry Norris. Taylor will be recognized mostly by his speedy punches and ring generalship.
