Medal of Honor (computer game)
Medal of Honor (MOH) is the name of a first-person shooter game set in World War II. The game was developed by Dreamworks Interactive and published by Electronic Arts in 1999 for the PlayStation game console. The game has spawned a series of follow-up games called the Medal of Honor series. In Medal of Honor, the player takes the role of Lt. Jimmy Patterson, an OSS agent. The goal of the game is to complete objectives, such as destroying enemy positions, and kill enemy German forces in the process.
Some consider it to be a controversial video game because of its violence and its attempts at realism. For example, the game was banned in Germany in 2000.
The Medal of Honor series puts the player in the shoes of an Allied combatant during World War II, with weaponry appropriate to the time period. The games are characterized by linear gameplay through recognizable WWII-era areas of conflict, which is sometimes presented in a cinematic tone (e.g., inspiration from modern films like Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the Gates is obvious).
The later games in the Medal of Honor series are:
- (2000)
- (2002)
- (2002)
- (2003)
- (to be released in 2004)
