- maya (illusion) from Sanskrit - in Hindu/Vedic and Sikh philosophy, the illusion of physical reality or superimposition of finite perception on the infinite reality. Also the terms is used to refer to the whole of the world is an illusion. As upon death ones 'real self' is realised and this material world is no more! So the attachment to worldly things is regarded as a attachment to 'Maya' or an illusion.
