In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Maquis were a resistance movement made mostly of humans that fought Cardassian occupation of their worlds, after the treaty that ended the Federation-Cardassian war. The Maquis were wiped out by an alliance between the Dominion and the Cardassians.

Based on the episode The Killing Game, set in World War II France, it appears the Star Trek Maquis were named for the French resistance to the Nazi occupation (see Maquis (WW2)). Alternately, they might have been named for the 18th century Corsican democracy movement (see Maquis (Corsica)).
