Ma'anshan

Ma'anshan (also MaAnShan) is an industrial city at the river Yangtse about 50 km southwest of Nanjing. The main industry is the steel industry which employs most of the citizens of MaAnShan (MaGang).

Surrounded by little hills (MaAnShan means horse saddle mountain) it is not as polluted as other major Chinese "steel cities", but except for industry you will not find very much here. There are no tourist attractions in or around Maanshan. The only mayor international hotel is the Nanhu Hotel (four star hotel in Chinese ranking), which caters mainly to Communist party assemblies and foreign specialists for the steel industry.

In the near future (2004) mayor expansions of the steel plant (MaGang) are planned to increase production drastically.
