MINURSO is a United Nations mission, established in 1991 to the people of western Sahara choose between integration with Morocco or independence.

The name is a french acronym. It stands for "Mission des nations unies pour le referendum dans le Sahara Occidental" - United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara.
