M. Night Shyamalan (born Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan, on August 6, 1970) is a writer and director best known for the movies The Sixth Sense (1999), Unbreakable (2000), and Signs (2002). Another film ''The Village is about to be released July 30, 2004

He was born in Pondicherry, India, but was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after his parents, both doctors, immigrated to the United States. Shyamalan attended New York University's film school.

Shyamalan's movies have all been filmed either in Philadelphia or elsewhere in the state of Pennsylvania.
