Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge

Lucy Cavendish College (part of the University of Cambridge) which takes mature female students only.

The college was founded in 1965 by a group of women who wanted to expand opportunities for women in Cambridge. It has a particular focus on the needs of older women students, and was mentioned for this in the novel Strong Medicine by Arthur Hailey (of Airport fame).

The college is named for Lucy Cavendish (1841-1925), an aristocrat who campaigned for the reform of women’s education.

The current President of Lucy Cavendish is Dame Veronica Sutherland.
