Lorena Bobbitt
Lorena Gallo Bobbitt (born either 1968 or 1969) cut off the penis of her husband, John Wayne Bobbitt, with a kitchen knife, as he lay sleeping, on June 23, 1993, drove off with it and flung it out her car window. Law enforcement officials performed a diligent search and relocated the amputated penis, which was then surgically reattached.In statements to police, she explained that she cut off her husband's penis because he was "selfish" and "wouldn't give her an orgasm".
In 1994, she was found to be not guilty of "malicious wounding" when she cut off her husband's penis; because she had experienced an irresistible impulse to do so, and was thus not liable for her actions. She was ordered to spend 45 days in a mental hospital.
Her husband, John Wayne Bobbitt, was acquitted on a charge of marital sexual assault in September 1993.

Lorena Gallo obtained a divorce in 1995 and resumed the use of her maiden name.
In 1998, Lorena Gallo was charged with assault for punching her mother, Elvia Gallo, as she watched television.
Ten years after the conviction, Dr. David Reardon (author of "Making Abortion Rare: A Healing Strategy for a Divided Nation"--a quote from its Introduction: "For the last twelve years my goal has been to educate the general public about how women are seriously injured and exploited by abortion.") released a report titled 'The John and Lorena Bobbitt Mystery, Unraveled' which gave a possible explanation of what was going through Lorena's mind during the attack. The theory was that a previous abortion, forced upon her, by John created feelings of resentment. This explains why Lorena chopped off his penis and took with her a neighbor's Game Boy on the night of the attack. Reardon believes that symbolically John's penis represented the 'boy' she lost to abortion.
The night of the attack, Dr. Reardon claims that Lorena felt abused to the point of irrationality. Lorena wanted to leave John and take everything she felt she had lost. In her mind, the most devastating loss to her was the aborted child. Thus, Lorena took John's penis, her baby 'boy', and an item of nurture (the Game Boy) and drove away.
Lorena Gallo was born either 1968 (between June 24 and December 31) or 1969 (between January 1 and June 23), having been 24 on June 23, 1993.
