Lord of the Isles

Sponsorship the way you would do it
A Scottish title of nobility, initially referring to various Viking freebooters who ruled some or all of the Hebrides and Orkney Islands in the middle ages. Although nominally vassals of the King of Norway and/or of the King of Scotland, in fact the Lords of the Isles remained functionally independent for many centuries, sometimes as kings of Man and the Isles.

Lord Ragnar of the Isles allegedly helped Robert the Bruce in the early 14th century, aiding his escape to Ireland when all seemed lost.

As of 2004 Charles, Prince of Wales bears the title of Lord of the Isles.
