List of subway and RT stations in Toronto

This is a list of the stations of the TTC subway and RT system in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The Toronto subway system consists of three conventional subway lines:

• Yonge-University-Spadina
• Bloor-Danforth
• Sheppard

An intermediate capacity light rail line, the Scarborough RT or LRT (light rail transit) line, is also shown on subway route maps, although it is entirely above ground. However, subway cars cannot run on it, so passengers must transfer from the subway to the RT. Motive power on the RT is by linear induction, while the subway operates by conventional electric traction. A list of Scarborough RT stations is included below.

Most stations are named for the nearest major road crossed by the line in question. A few are named for major landmarks, such as shopping centres or transportation hubs, served by the station. The University Avenue section of the yellow line, in particular, is named entirely for landmarks (public institutions and major churches).

Notes

(1) North York Centre station was added by excavating alongside the existing tracks, at a level section of line provided for this purpose when the line was built.

(2) Spadina station consists of two separate parts, one for each line, at the same level; they are connected inside the station's fare-paid zone by a long tunnel with moving walkways. At St. George, westbound and northbound trains stop one above the other; they both call at Spadina next, but the northbound ones make a 90-degree turn first, and similarly for the other direction.

(3) Bay and St. George stations each have four parallel tracks, two above two. Between these stations and Museum is a full double-track, grade-separated wye junction. The tracks to/from Museum connect to the upper St. George and lower Bay stations, while the tracks along Bloor use lower St. George and upper Bay. From February to September 1966 all three sides of the wye were used in regular service: from each of three terminals - Eglinton, Keele, and Woodbine - trains ran alternately to the other two (between Eglinton and Museum they went via Union). Thereafter the Bloor-Danforth Line became a separate route, lower Bay was closed, and upper St. George became a terminus until the line to Wilson was opened. Lower Bay is sometimes used as a movie or TV set representing various other cities, and has been used for platform-surface experiments, but otherwise the wye links between the two lines are only used if cars or work equipment need to be transferred between them. It has acquired a legendary status amongst so-called urban explorers, who often brave a host of dangers to gain access to the now-abandoned station.

(4) The original subway plan approved by referendum in 1946 called for a streetcar (light rail) subway under Queen Street. A cavern was accordingly excavated under Queen station for the streetcar station, but the Queen line was never built. Some of the space was later used for other purposes.

(5) The station is called Bloor-Yonge on maps, but signed "Bloor" on the Yonge-University-Spadina line and "Yonge" on the Bloor-Danforth Line, following the style common in New York. The Bloor-Danforth tracks cross under the other line.

(6) This station has a third track with its own platform face, which can be used by trains entering or leaving service at the adjacent yard, or as an alternate route if one of the running lines is blocked.

(7) In contrast to Bloor-Yonge station, this one was renamed from "Sheppard" to "Sheppard-Yonge" in 2002. The Sheppard line tracks cross above the other line. Near the station are two junction tracks connecting the two lines, used only if cars or work equipment need to be transferred between them.

(8) At Kennedy station the Scarborough RT tracks are parallel to the subway tracks and directly above them.

(9) Both Spadina and Union stations have underground links to major streetcar lines - Spadina to the southbound Spadina line, Union to the south-then-westbound Queen's Quay line.
