List of major UFO sightings

Throughout the twentieth century, there has been a list of major UFO sightings and numerous unexplained aerial phenomena classified as UFOs. Some reports have become legendary among the general public (passing into contemporary folklore), while others are known mainly to ufologists. Some critics have charged the US government of secrecy or suppressing reports in UFO conspiracy theories.

• 1949: Astromer Clyde Tombaugh reported a strange sighting at his home in Los Cruces, New Mexico.
• 1950: Trent Farm sighting
• 1955: Kelly-Hopkinsville sighting
• 1961: Hill Abduction
• 1965: Kecksburg UFO Incident (events reported in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania)
• 1967: Falcon Lake Incident
• 1971: Delphos UFO Incident (Delphos, Kansas)
• 1973: Pascagoula Abduction
• 1975: Travis Walton abduction
• 1978: Valentich Disappearance
• 1979: Marshall County Incident, Marshall County, Minnesota

• 1980: Rendlesham UFO Incident (events over three nights in England)
• 1986: Dalnegorsk Height 611 UFO Incident (a UFO crash claim in Dalnegorsk, USSR followed by a UFO landing claim in 1989)
