The Brazilian Football League is highly regionalised because of the vast size of the country. The structure of the league has changed frequently from year to year as different configurations are experimented with. Many of the most important matches each season are derbies, especially those in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Football is by far the most popular sport in Brazil. Many of the world's best football players come from Brazil, but the country is well-known for some of the world's worst organization of the sport.
