aka. neutrophil elastase.

an elastolytic serine protease carried in the azurophilic (primary) granules of neutrophils. it is not synthesized in the mature neutrophil, but rather during granulocytic differentiation. it is initially synthesized as a 'pre-pro' enzyme, undergo cleavage to form the mature protein. the gene symbol for this enzyme is ELA2, and in humans, it exists in a cluster of several related proteolytic-type genes.
