LGBT (or GLBT) is an acronym used as a collective term to refer to Lesbians, Gay men, Bisexuals and Transgender people. It is considered less controversial than the terms "lesbigay" or "queer."

In some cities, it has been replaced by the more inclusive acronym LGBTTIQ, which means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgendered, intersex and/or queer. The Q can also mean questioning. It can also be noted that the terms transsexual and intersex can fall under the umbrella term transgender, though many transsexuals object to this.

As of 2004, LGBT had become so mainstream, it was adoped by the majority lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community centers and the gay press in most English-speaking countries.
