The Kronos Quartet is a string quartet founded in 1973. It comprises founder and 1st violin David Harrington, 2nd violin John Sherba, violist Hank Dutt, and new cellist Jennifer Culp. Their home is San Francisco, California, and until recently the quartet included cellist Joan Jeanrenaud, who performed on the quartet's Black Angels (a recording of the piece of the same name by George Crumb and other works). Their work covers a very broad range of musical genres including amongst others: Mexican folk music (Nuevo), experimental, movie soundtracks (Requiem for a Dream), chamber music and tango (with Astor Piazzolla).
