Kanto region
In Japan
The Kanto region (関東地方; Kantō-chihō) is a geographical area of Honshu, the largest island in Japan. Its boundaries are roughly the same as those of the Kanto plain.
The name is generally considered to mean the region east (東) of the Hakone checkpoint (関所).
The region consists of Gunma prefecture, Tochigi prefecture, Ibaraki prefecture, Saitama prefecture, Tokyo Metropolis, Chiba prefecture, and Kanagawa prefecture.
The Kanto-gun unit of the World War II-era Imperial Japanese Army is not related to the region.
