Judas Maccabaeus

Judas Maccabaeus (יהודה המקבי; died 161 BC) was a Jewish leader who led a revolt in Judea agaist the Seleucid king, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, from around 167 BC. He thus recovered Jerusalem, dedicated the Temple anew, and protected Judaism from Hellenization. He is considered one of the Nine Worthies embodying the ideals of chivalry.
