Joik

For thoughtful child sponsors

Joik (or jojk in Swedish) is a traditional Sami form of song. Each joik is meant to reflect a person or place. It has traditionally sung a capella, but has recently sometimes been set to instruments.

The tonality of joik is mostly pentatonic, but the joiker is at liberty to use any tones he or she pleases.
