John Sheridan, played by Bruce Boxleitner, is a fictional character in the universe of the science-fiction television series Babylon 5.

Warning: Plot details follow.

Sheridan, born on Earth, was the son of an [[Earth Alliance (Babylon 5)| Earth Alliance]] diplomat. Having enlisted in EarthForce, Sheridan rose to the rank of lieutenant commander and served as first officer aboard the EAS Lexington during the Earth-Minbari War. Following the death of Captain Sterns in a sneak attack, Sheridan orchestrated Earth's only military victory of the war by mining an asteroid field and luring the enemy in with a fake distress signal.

Sheridan later commanded the EAS Agamemnon in the mid-2250's, leading exploratory and diplomatic missions. He was one of the candidates to command Babylon 5, but was rejected by the Minbari in favor of Jeffrey Sinclair.

When Sinclair was reassigned as ambassador to Minbar in January 2259, Sheridan was tapped to command the station. Following illegal bombings of civilian targets and a martial law decree by Earth Alliance President Clark, Sheridan declared the station independent in mid-2260. With Delenn, he led an alliance of races against the Shadows, ultimately leading to the departure of the First Ones from the galaxy in early 2261.

Later that year, Sheridan led rogue EarthForce ships in an internal coup which deposed President Clark. Under political pressure, Sheridan resigned his EarthForce commission; however, he was soon thereafter named President of the Interstellar Alliance and married Minbari Ambassador Delenn. He led the Alliance, first from Babylon 5 and then from Minbar, for over a decade. He finally turned over the position to Delenn and focused his efforts on leading the Anla'Shok.

In 2281, Sheridan traveled alone to the Coriana system, where he was taken beyond the galactic rim by Lorien. His empty ship was later recovered, but his body was never found.
