John Michael Hayes (born May 11, 1919) an American playwright. Hayes was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. He wrote for newspapers and radio shows before becoming a movie screenwriter. He wrote the screen plays for Peyton Place and four Alfred Hitchcock films: Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, The Trouble with Harry and 1956's The Man Who Knew Too Much. He later taught at Dartmouth College.
