A five-dinar note featuring Saddam Hussein

The Iraqi dinar (ISO 4217: IQD) is the legal currency of Iraq.

All recent banknotes show the image of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Following his deposition in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi Governing Council made public display of images of Hussein illegal. In an effort to feed the Iraqi economy, the Office for Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance began printing more 250-dinar notes. Saddam Hussein appeared on the 250-dinar note until October 2003, when a more neutral design was adopted.

At around this time, a number of spoof banknote designs were circulated on the internet, showing US President George W. Bush in Saddam's place.

Now that Saddam Hussein has been removed from power, De La Rue, a British company, printed the Iraqi new dinar's and improved the dinar to have the latest and greatest security features available.

Since Saddam's capture Iraq's economy has nearly doubled in value, so in many investors eyes the Iraqi Dinar will only rise in value as well. As we all know, Iraq floats over a lake of oil and its reserves are sufficient to feed the worlds need for decades to come. So many forward-thinking investors believe that there is great potential for this country to expand and for the Dinar to raise in value over time.
