Inner-city
The inner-city is usually a poorer part of a major city. The inner-city neighborhoods are often populated by minority ethnic groups. Many inner-cities are characterized by poverty, vandalism, prevalence of street gangs, drugs, and so on.Due to the "White flight" that occurred throughout the 20th century, many inner-cities in the United States are heavily populated by African Americans. The inner-cities have been the frequent location of several race riots such as the 1965 Watts Riots and the 1992 Los Angeles Riots.
