İlham HeydÃÂär oğlu ÃÂÃÂliyev (born 1961) is, as of December 2003, the president of Azerbaijan for the New Azerbaijan Party.
He was the prime minister of Azerbaijan from August until November 2003. As the son of the president Heydar Aliyev he was the proposed successor as the leader of the state. Presidential elections were held on October 15, 2003. He won the election and took office at the end of the month.
