Ikalto
Ikalto is a
monastery complex near Telavi (Kakheti region of Eastern
Georgia). Founded in the
5th century. The strongest and largest hearth of culture and education in that times.
In the
11th-
12th centuries a famous Georgian ecclesiastic figure Arsen Ikaltoeli ("Ikaltoeli" means "from Ikalto") founded here the Academy. Near the complex there are three churches and Academy's ruins. From them the mainest is the
8th-
9th centuries' one, named "Khvtaeba".
