Hedmark
Hedmark is a county in Norway, bordering SÃÂør-TrÃÂøndelag, Oppland and Akershus. In 2002 there were 187,965 inhabitants, which is 4.1% of the total population in Norway. Its area is 27,388 km². The county administration is in Hamar.Hedmark makes up the norhteastern part of ÃÂÃÂstlandet (The southeastern part of the country). It includes a long part of the borderline to Sweden (Dalarnas lÃÂän and VÃÂärmlands lÃÂän). The largest lakes are Femunden and MjÃÂøsa. It also includes parts of Glomma. Geographically, Hedmark is in the traditional sense divided in the following regions: Hedemarken, east of MjÃÂøsa, ÃÂÃÂsterdalen, north of Elverum, and GlÃÂÃÂ¥mdalen, south of Elverum. Hedmark and Oppland are the only ones of the norwegian counties with no coastline.
In the county are the well-known towns and builded places Hamar, Kongsvinger, Elverum and Tynset. Hedmark is one of the less urbanized areas in Norway, as about the half of the inhabitans live in rural land. Population is mainly concentrated in the rich agricultural district adjoining MjÃÂøsa to the southeast. The county's extensive forests supply much of Norway's timber; logs are floated down Glomma to the coast.
