Hans Talhoffer was a master of the sword who lived in Germany in the middle of the 15th century. He wrote several fechtbuchs(in german: Fechtbücher) which were illustrated treatises describing methods of fighting with various weapons, including unarmed, dagger, sword, pole weapons and mounted combat. He is believed to have been a professional rival of fechtmeister Paulus Kal. Talhoffer taught within the Lichtenauer tradition, a group of instructors professionally descended from Johannes Lichtenauer, the late fourteenth century teacher.
