Haimirich

For thoughtful child sponsors
Haimirich is an old Middle High German name from which many modern names derive. Among them are names like Henry, Henri, Heinrich and their female counterparts, as well as less obvious ones such as Enrique. This name means 'ruler of the Home', from 'haim' (home) and 'rich' (powerful).

Some forms and alternates of this name:

Even the name America is thought to be derived from this name, from Haimirich > Emmerich > Americus > Amerigo. America is supposedly named such in honour of Amerigo Vespucci, who was one of the first to realize that America is a newly discovered continent. He explored parts of its coast and wrote about it, however, Amerike is another potentially valid name origin also, which is wholly unrelated to this name format, and probably more appropriate considering the fact that America was founded by English settlers rather than Italian(Amerike is actually Welsh-ap Meryk).

In Europe, many kings and noblemen of various countries had names derived from Haimirich. For examples, see List of British monarchs, List of French Monarchs, List of German Kings and Emperors, various other lists of medieval rulers, to be found at Lists of incumbents, and King Henry.
