HMS Montrose

Sponsorship the way you would do it
Only two ships have borne the name Montrose but they have both been proud additions to the Royal Navy. It's motto is "Mare ditat rosa decorat" (The sea enriches and the rose adorns). The ship is named after the port of Montrose and is strongly linked with the town and the region of Angus.

First

The first HMS Montrose (1918) was a Scott-class destroyer-leader, commissioned in September 1918. She was actoively involved in WWII. Montrose was decommissioned in 1946 and scrapped that same year.

Second

The second and current HMS Montrose (F236) is a Type 23 frigate. She was commissioned in 1994.
