Gympie
The city of Gympie is located in south eastern Queensland, and is approximately 170 kilometers north of the state capital, Brisbane. Gympie is the administrative centre for the Cooloola Shire. Shire population was 33,000 at the 2001 Census.Originally settled for grazing purposes, the area became prominent in the 1860's when gold was discovered. Gold mining still plays a role in the areas fortunes, along with agriculture, timber and tourism.
