Historically, Gers was part of Gascony. It was created as a separate dÃÂépartement during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790, in application of the Law of December 22, 1789, partitioning the provinces of Guyenne and Gascony.
Gers is part of the Midi-PyrÃÂénÃÂées region. It borders the dÃÂépartements of Hautes-PyrÃÂénÃÂées, Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne, Landes, and PyrÃÂénÃÂées-Atlantiques.
