Gauge boson
The Gauge Boson is a type of Boson, or subatomic elementary particle which acts as a carrier of the fundamental forces. There are three identified types: photons, gluons, and intermediate vector bosons W and Z. The graviton is a fourth type that has been postulated, but not yet isolated or proven to exist.
The number of distinct gauge bosons carrying a force is equal to the number of generators of its gauge group.
