Gaspar de Guzman, Count of Olivares, Duke of San Lucar, known as the Count-Duke of Olivares (January 6, 1587 - July 22, 1645) was the chief minister of the Spanish king, Philip IV. Guzman worked to centralize the Spanish government; in part, by undermining the power of the Catholic Church and the aristocracy. Guzman was born in Rome, the son of a Spanish ambassador.
