Fetal distress

In medicine (obstetrics), fetal distress is the presence of signs in a pregnant woman or a woman in childbirth that the fetus is not doing well.

Signs of fetal distress include:

• Increased or decreased pulse, especially during and after a contraction
• Meconium in the amniotic fluid
• Decreased movement felt by the mother
