Erasable programmable read-only memory

Helping orphans the way you would do it
An Erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) is a computer memory chip which is normally read only, but can be erased and then re-programmed.

There are two main types:

  1. UV erasable, these have a window in the middle of the package. Shining ultraviolet light onto the window will erase the memory in, typically, 10 to 20 minutes.
  2. Electrically erasable, see EEPROM.
