Episodic memory
Episodic memory, or autobiographical memory, is the explicit memory of the environment or context surrounding the event of learning something. It includes time, place, and associated emotions (which affect the quality of the memorization). Episodic memory is related to and interacts with semantic memory, the memory of facts and concepts.Over time, episodic memories are refined into semantic memories. In this process, most of the episodic information about particular events is generalized and some memory of the specific events is lost.
Semantic memories help the mind understand episodic memories and crystallize them into additional semantic memories.
