Duffy's Tavern

The opening of Duffy's Tavern went something like this:

Sound of a piano playing "When Irish Eyes are Smiling", sometimes with several people singing.

A telephone cuts through the music and it comes to a stop.

Archie answers the phone: "Duffy's Tavern where the elite meet to eat. Duffy ain't here, Archie the manager speaking" (short pause) "Oh hello Duffy".

Archie the manager, played by Ed Gardner led the antics at the bar & grill on Third Avenue. Regulars included Ms. Duffy (Duffy's daughter, who was man-crazy), Eddie the janitor/helper around the bar, and Clifton Finnegan, the loveable moron.

Almost every week there was a guest star, from Shelley Winters to Nigel Bruce.
