Daniel Ray Coats

Daniel Ray Coats (born May 16, 1943 in Jackson, Michigan) is an American diplomat. He is a member of the Republicans.

Coats was graduated from Jackson High School 1961 and the Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., with B.A. in 1965. He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. His J.D. he made 1971 in the Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis. From 1976 to 1980 Coats was district representative of the United States Congressman Dan Quayle. He represented Indiana in the House of Representatives (1981 - 1988) and in the Senate (1989 - 1999).

Since August 15,2001 Coats has been the U.S. ambassador to Germany.
