This article deals with a current or ongoing event. Information may be outdated.

The two communities of the divided nation of Cyprus are to hold a referendum on reunification on Saturday 24 April 2004. Voters in the Greek Republic of Cyprus and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus portions of the island will be asked to choose between ratifying or rejecting a United Nations proposal for reunification (the "Annan Plan").

Should either community fail to ratify, only the Greek side will accede to the European Union on 1 May 2004. If the plan is ratified, Cyprus will accede as the "United Cyprus Republic".

Campaigning concluded on Thursday, 22 April. Opinion polls published on that day indicated that while some 60% of the Turkish community were ready to accept the proposal, around 65% of the Greek community intended to vote no.
